The population is 3,116 (2000 Census) with approximately 1,000 homes and 200 businesses about 6 miles west of downtown Austin. The local Eanes ISD has the distinction of being regarded as one of the top 25 districts in the entire state of Texas. The excellence of its schools makes Westlake immensely popular among families with children. Westlake offers residents easy access to an extensive list of amenities, including miles of hiking/biking trails, boat docks on Lake Austin, the Barton Creek Greenbelt and Zilker Park. In addition, Barton Creek Resort and Spa has four 18-hole championship-style golf courses, designed by the likes of Arnold Palmer and Ben Crenshaw.
